Mannan Castle Club News
Questions are being asked about this Criss-Cross repeater competition been played at Mannan, this fun weekly competition is open to both men and ladies, combine your scores with your playing partners, so you have many chances to win, for further information call our Resident Professional Kevin Mc Givern at 042 966 3308.……I heard it from a fairly reliable source that it may be even cheaper to play this competition this week.
The big news at Mannan Castle is that our Thursday Open will now become a 2 day event and will be played both Wednesday and Thursday, so watch this space for more updates. We are now also updating our BRS system so visitors looking to play at Mannan will be able to book online using our BRS system http://www.mannancastlegolfclub.ie Ladies don’t worry thanks to the BRS system this will not affect your competition times.
A great night was had by those who attended the Love Quiz held last Friday; although it would have been nice to see a few more members support nights like this. Congratulations to the winning team an all-male youthful team of Jack Corr, Andrew Boylan and Ronan O’Callaghan led by no other than Captain Shane Corr.
Our Captain’s Drive-in February 26th is only two weeks away, the format for this competition is a 4 person scramble over Saturday February 25th & Sunday 26th you will be able to book your tee time for this event online, then there will be a draw made for teams. Now if anyone has heard how our Captain Shane and Lady Captain Ann are going to arrive, let me know? I’ll not say a word!
There are “WANTED” Posters all around the clubhouse, if you have not yet collected a “Bounty”, you may want to do so soon. If you know of someone who is thinking of joining an excellent golf club with wonderful facilities, your chance to collect your bounty on them is running out!
Mens News
Finally a weekend without wind, rain, or a frost delay, okay so the sun didn’t shine but at least one didn’t have to put on the wet gear and thermals before hitting the fairways this weekend. It was great to see a full timesheet this weekend and great to see a few returning members back playing again. Although the Weekly Spring competition is only over 13 holes, 18 holes are open and the greens are in magnificent condition. John Clarke was walking around the clubhouse smiling from ear to ear after his round on Saturday, I just presumed he was a Man U fan, but it turns out he had every reason to smile after scoring 33pts, alas it was not enough to secure 1st place as David McSharry managed to take the lead with 34pts. Well done guys, great scoring.
Spring Voucher Competition (13 Holes) Week Results February 11th/12th
1st David McSharry (11) 34pts
2nd John Clarke (10) 33pts
3rd Liam Leatham (18) 31pts

Men’s News
Two of the steadiest players of the Spring Voucher competition this year have to be our Club President Sean Harvey and past President Eddie Rouiller who both brought in 31pts this week, alas after the 2pt deductions for previously featuring in the winning circle meant that neither placed, but well done guys on such good scores. Congratulations to Patrick Maguire who had a excellent 32pts this weekend.
Spring Voucher Competition (13 holes) February 4th & 5th
1st Patrick Macguire (23) 32pts

Mannan Club News Hopefully the weather permits the Criss-Cross Repeater to kick off this week, this repeater competition is an Open Repeater to men and women as we are a progressive club we do not discriminate, I hope to see a few ladies participate in this fun competition which starts at €3 for members, for more information call Kevin McGivern our Professional at 042 9663308.
I bet you didn’t know that our bar manager Finbar is a romantic at heart! Well he’s the driving force behind the Valentines Weekend Table Quiz, a table of 4 for €20, Friday February 10th at 9pm, now we’ve been promised a few love related questions. Everyone welcome to this fun night.
When it comes to area Golf Clubs, Mannan Castle is still the best deal in town. We reward our loyal members, so if you’ve been a member for 3 years or more, your yearly membership is €660, even if you left for a few years and decide to come back, check out the deals on our web-site http://www.mannancastlegolfclub.ie. If you have any questions call Kevin or Finbar at 042 966 3308. This year our competition fees have been reduced across the board.
One thing I’ve noticed over the last year is that our young guns with the single digit handicaps seem to spend quite a bit of time in the practice area, perhaps the rest of us should learn from them. Especially since our practice facilities are second to none, a 6 hole pitch & putt practice area, two putting greens and a driving range, so there’s no excuse for us not to hone our golf skills, we now have our own on-site professional Kevin who is always ready to help with very reasonable rates for lessons.
It’s only a few of weeks to our Captain’s Drive-In, Captain Shane Corr and Lady Captain Ann Connolly are a planning a grand entrance on February 26th.

29th January 2012
No golf for the Mannan Men this weekend due to a frost delay Saturday and it was decided to cancel Sunday’s play due to torrential rain, roll on summer.
On an optimistic note, for all you men itching to get out playing competitive golf, there is a weekly repeater from Monday through Friday and the format is Criss-cross for an explanation, speak to Kevin at (042) 966 3308.
Don’t forget to check out the great deals that Kevin has in the Proshop at the moment!
A reminder to everyone that there will be a Table Quiz in the clubhouse Friday February 10th; the theme for this quiz is “Romance & Love” since it’s the weekend before Valentines Day, everyone is welcome to this fun event!

22nd January 2012
The course was in such good condition that most players played 18 holes, which caused some confusion with results posted on Howdidido last weekend as the competition was only over 13 holes.
This weekend was more suited to kite flying than playing golf, but fair play to all who braved the weather and hit the fairways of Mannan Castle.
Spring Voucher Week 4 Results: January 21st /22nd 1st John Clarke (10) 30pts 2nd Jim Carolan (18) 30pts 3rd Cathal Copas (19) 30pts 4th Patrick Farrell (26) 29pts 5th Sean Harvey (19) 28pts

Mannan Castle Club News: Keep Friday February 10th free for Romance at Mannan Castle; actually it’s a Romantic/Love Quiz! Well we “love” golf so I’m sure there will be a twist to this quiz, if past quizzes have been anything to go by!
March 19th, Bank Holiday Monday Mannan Castle is hosting an Open Day, so mark your calendars and tell your friends.

Captain Shane Corr has taken the time to write an informative letter to Mannan Castle Club members, this can be found on our web site at http://www.mannancastlegolfclub.ie, alternatively on the Mens Noticeboard.
CLUB NEWS Mannan Castle golfers have been able to take advantage of the milder weather and the great condition of our course over the Christmas and New Year period. We are so lucky that we have been able to play 18 holes most weeks. For those of you who haven’t ventured out to play you’ll see a few changes around the course a new path from the 2nd green up the hill to the third tee box and from the 6th tee box up the steep hill. More trees have been planted at the back of the 12th green, this will definitely dull any sounds coming from the 5th and the 13th tee boxes. I think our members would agree that our greens are in great condition. Work should begin shortly removing the fairway bunker on the 6th, I, for one will be very happy to see this sand bunker gone, no matter how hard I try this is where my ball ultimately ends up.
There was a fantastic turnout for the annual Captain versus President Competition held on December 27th this year the competition was open to ladies. Louise Hanratty and men’s handicap secretary Michael Courtney made sure everyone got out to play in a very timely manner. Official result is that the President’s Team won, this result was tallied up by a certain ex-President who will remain unnamed. Unofficially well that’s another story! Captain Shane Corr and President Sean Harvey hope that everyone enjoyed their day. Everyone was treated to delicious burgers and homemade chips cooked by our chef Owen Kearney and a very big thanks to member Graham Sweeney who donated the potatoes and even chipped the chips.
Have you collected a bounty yet? Check out the posters in the clubhouse offering a “Reward” for more information contact our professional Kevin McGivern, bar manager Finbar Boylan or membership officer Thomas Gartlan.
One of the most fascinating things about golf is how it reflects the cycle of life. No matter what you shoot - the next day you have to go back to the first tee and begin all over again and make yourself into something. ~ Peter Jacobsen
18th December 2011
Due to extreme frost over the weekend the course was closed so novelty weekend competition was cancelled, but the presentations went ahead on Sunday, before Santa’s visit to the clubhouse.
Last weeks voucher went to our former Captain Seamus Whelan, well done. Congratulations to all the winners and everybody who played in the league, every category was closely contested.

Club News: We look forward to seeing all members (ladies & men) Tuesday December 27th Captains versus Secretaries competition, the format is stableford, it’s a 11am shotgun start. We might cook up a few burgers afterwards for those who’ve had their fill of turkey. Don’t forget to book to play in this fun event, the time sheet is now open.
We’d like to wish our professional Kevin McGivern & his partner all the best with their upcoming nuptials over the holiday period.

11th December 2011
Thursday Open was cancelled this week due to weather conditions.
A hard frost delayed tee times Saturday morning, an extension has been given until Wednesday, so everyone gets the chance to play in the last week of the Winter League, more details from Kevin or Finbar. I will have results for the winter league next week. Next weekend December 17th & 18th is Novelty Weekend, you are asked to bring a prize to win a prize, no charge to enter this weekend competition if you bring a prize, but of course some of you may forget to bring a prize then the charge is €5 for the competition. Presentation of prizes will be at Sunday at 5pm by a big guy in a red suit.
Club News: Santa Claus is coming to Mannan Castle; due to Santa’s busy schedule he has had to change the date of his visit to Mannan, he will now be visiting Mannan on Sunday 18th at 5pm, so Mannan members are invited to bring there children or grandchildren to meet Santa Claus. But of course if you can’t make it on the 18th I heard from a good source that Santa is still on schedule for the 25th. In the past the men’s club and the ladies club have had separate competitions after Christmas Captain’s versus President or Captains versus Secretary, this year we are going to try something a little different, ladies and gents are going to play together! The time sheet is now open for this fun event which will be held December 27th the time 11am, its shotgun start, so get to the club house early.
My Quote of the Week: Everyone replaces his divot after a perfect approach shot. ~ Unknown

Mannan Castle Club News Our Professional Kevin McGivern came up with the bright idea of Night Light Golf at Mannan Castle which was held Friday Nov 25th. The golf course was filled with luminous golfers, 116 golfers in total, 29 teams all glowing, with flash lights in hand, golf balls that light up and a sense of humour set off to play golf in the dark. The tee boxes glowed, the flag poles were flashing, every team was issued with 4 golf balls that lit up when you hit them, a few dud golf balls were reported, but most teams returned to the clubhouse with at least one golf ball. A special thanks to one of our founder members, Paul Mackle who generously donated the burgers and to Frank Kelly for the burger buns, to Chef Amy assisted by mom Sheila who fed the hungry masses on return to the clubhouse, thanks to everyone who made salads. The big question is “When are we going to do this again?” Many ladies played but just didn’t feature in the prizes…but watch out next time guys!
