Captain Anthony Downey & Lady Captain Margaret Bourke looked dashing and stylish as they arrived to Mannan Castle in a bright red 1974 MGB sports car. The dapper duo were greeted to a champagne & strawberry reception before they teed off in retro garb and clubs from bygone days. Payne Steward would have approved guys. The sun shone on Mannan Castle over the weekend, the scramble was a great success. We wish our Captains all the best for the coming year. Well done to Jackie Edwards & Karen Forrester who beat ladies from Seapoint in the first round of the Irish Mail All-Ireland Fourball, the Mannan ladies won their match on the 18th hole and considering Seapoint were last years finalists, this is a fantastic win. CAPTAINS DRIVE-IN THE CAPTAINS OF MANNAN CASTLE, MARGARET BOURKE AND ANTHONY DOWNEY FINALLY HAD THEIR DRIVE IN ON SUNDAY 7TH MARCH 2010. THEY BOTH ARRIVED TOGETHER IN STYLE IN A 1970'S MGB GT SPORTS CAR. ANTHONY THOUGHT THAT HE WAS STERLING MOSS! BOTH WERE ATTIRED IN PLUS-FOURS AND THEY BOTH LOOKED THE PART!! MARGARET'S DRIVE BISECTED THE FAIRWAY, BUT ANTHONY'S WAS A LITTLE HIGH TO SAY THE LEAST...! Over 100 members played at the week-end and fifteen holes were open with full greens. As the wwather was enjoyable for a change the scoring was very high. Results weekend 27th/28th Voucher Competition 1st Eamon Gibney (10) 40 Pts 2nd Tommy Burke (12) 30 pts. 3rd Michael McBride (12) 38 pts.
